I couldn’t let October go by without acknowledging Breast Cancer Awareness Month! When I was 28 years old my physician found a lump and it was thought that I had breast cancer. Previously I wrote a blog post about it. Make sure you head over to read that post, as I update you all on what’s been going on lately with my left breast since its discovery four years ago.
Doctors Visits
I have now been downgraded to follow up visits every other year with my oncologist! I went from initially three months, to six month, to every year, to every other year! This by far has definitely a process, but one that I know I had to go through.
Oncologist
I have the best oncologist ever. She takes her time with me which in returns allows me to understand how to proceed forward until my next visit. This was one thing that I definitely wanted in a physician. Feeling comfortable was key for me because being in your twenty’s and having to go through a mammogram is already frightening on its own. Having a physician that you can express all those fears and questions to, helps aid in healing and treatment.
Alternative Medicine
Now you guys know that this is one of my favorites. Although I did have to get a procedure, my oncologist suggested I tried evening primrose oil to aid in decreasing pain and extra growth of lumps on my left breast. I took them in pill form as well as did Jamaican Black Castor Oil soaks on the area for a little over a year.
Everything is still a journey. I am constantly learning more about my body the older I get. I salute all women (and and men) that has been or is diagnosed with breast cancer.
