October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Every October is always a reflective month because I remember being in my mid 20s. It was then that my primary care physician found a lump on my left breast. I have two blog posts regarding how my doctor found it & my follow up appointment with my oncologist that you can read here. Like everything else, this is definitely a journey. My physician thinking I may have cancer was one of my most scariest moments in my health.
Self Breast Exam
This is something that I cannot stress enough. Self breast exams can be done while you’re in the shower, standing up, or lying down. Three to five days after your menstrual cycle. Just make sure that you do it the same day every month for consistency. Check their size, color, and more importantly under your armpit and nipple. For additional information in self breast exams, you can learn more here.
Although you may think something like finding a lump may not happen to you, trust me it can. Breast Cancer Awareness for women should be every month; especially if you still get a menstrual cycle. Early prevention is key!
Be brave. Be strong. Don’t give up. Expect God to get here soon.
