Earlier this month I went to a vegan based event called Breakfast For Dinner with Chef Yaa Pierce at Clifton Place Garden in the heart of Brooklyn. Once entering the garden, I felt so much at home. Actually, now that I think about it, I became home sick because I remember growing up and always seeing my grandmother growing fresh vegetables in our backyard, so when I looked around this garden, I couldn’t help but take pictures of nature’s beauty.

I am no expert of this area. I just avoid pork and beef, and certain foods that trigger me to have an endo flare. But after this dinner I decided to do my own research on understanding the difference between vegetarians and vegans, and this is what I concluded:

Vegetarians:

  • There are different types of vegetarians; some eat fish and avoid the consumption of other meat products, while others do not consume any meat, fish, or poultry at all.
  • Eat diary: such as eggs, cheese, yogurt, or milk
  • Also eat fruits, vegetables, leafy greens, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and legumes; but not a specific pattern like vegans.

Vegans:

  • Eliminate all meat, dairy, and any animal products
  • Consumes fruits, vegetables, leafy greens, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and legumes.

Would I go vegan/vegetarian? I would lean more to the vegetarian side than vegan. There were definitely some dishes I will implement into making like the vegan pancakes; primarily because it taste so good I did not feel like I was missing anything at all from it. For example, the pancakes I ate that night was made out of baking powder, wheat flour, and almond milk. The desserts included bananas, cashews, and coconut milk blended and then frozen together to make an ice cream substance. These are all things that I already consume in my diet and my taste buds love! Overall attending this dinner was a great experience and I will experiment a little bit in the vegetarian world!
