Having an endometriosis flare is one of the worst things to experience with my condition; especially when you have a prior engagement or meeting that you cannot miss. As I mentioned on my instagram page, I was experiencing a really bad flare this past week. An endometriosis (we call our condition endo for short) flare is a symptom experienced when the body gives off a signal that in returns delivers an inflammatory response. Medically regardless of the body trying to rid itself from extra swelling, inflammation can still occur – thus leading to bloating within the abdominal area. A flare can also be caused by consuming foods that are unhealthy for one with endometriosis. Below is a picture I posted a few weeks ago on instagram when I was having a flare of my own.

Having an endo flare does NOT mean you cannot be trendy or should cancel your plans; it simply calls for a wardrobe change – just like what I did. This past Sunday I was determined to attend church service in-spite of my flare, so I looked in closet and put on this cute swing dress I purchased last year on sale for $11 at Forever 21! I realized that A-line and flare (of course) cut fit me the best during this time. Although my dress is no longer in stock, I found this dress and also a plus sized dress that are really cute and affordable.

Here are my tips on how to still look stylish during an endo flare:

  • Be comfortable: wear clothes that does not draw too much attention on your stomach because being relaxed as much as possible is key during this time.

  • Be confident:  “The most beautiful thing you can wear is confidence” ~ Blake Lively. I believe that half the battle during a flare starts with your mind. Beauty is being able to look past all your imperfections and still love who you are. Once you establish what confidence means to you, picking out a substitute outfit will be easy.

  • Be content: not all days lead to a flare, so try and take it all in stride knowing that tomorrow is a brand new wonderful day!
